I love the idea of simple portraiture - placing the very ordinary with the very famous - here are 3 of my heroes from my new book on the subject :-

Memories of a wild weekend in Amsterdam -

Rebellion 2014 with Paranoid Visions, the Damned, and Cock Sparrer ;

a punky reggae party and it was alright - Don’t give up the fight !

Sometimes I am confused about what it means to be Irish this week-end; but, perhaps it is best embodied in the Spirit of Brian O’Driscoll, who retires tomorrow, from Irish duty - so Thank you Brian, for you unwavering courage and treasured magic, during these strange recessionary times and Happy St Patricks day to everyone else, whatever it means to you !

It is the Oscar silly season, but here are my nominations for best Irish actors :-

Niall Toibin

John Hurt

Alan Devlin

Rose’s are Red,
Violets are blue ….

nah, I’ll let Mark Lanegan recite :-

Would you put on that long white gown
And burn like there’s no more tomorrows?
Will you walk with me underground
And forgive all my sicknesses and my sorrows?
Will you be shamed if I shake like I’m dyin’
When I fall to my knees and I’m crying?
Will you visit me where my body rests
Will you put on that long white dress?

Happy Valentines all

Rock n’Roll blasted into Dublin city last night , at Fibber Magees rock joint - best night of raw grungy Rock, in a long long time - Big shout to

Paranoid Visions / Goldblade / The Outcasts

for making it all happen, the city centre shuddered and trembled, restoring my faith in the power of music - the real Spirit of Rock n Roll is happily alive & kicking on our Emerald isle.

2013 saw me return to photographing Dublin city, my home, again, after a 3 year absence. I will be showcasing 19 of these images at the Centre for Creative Practice, Pembroke street, Dublin - for one week only - Opening 23rd January.

The exhibition’s theme and title is - the Heatwave - but it will also be a celebration of life, after my recent losses.

Have a wonderful 2014.

Barry

My hardest post - sometimes words & photographs mean nothing - last night my greatest friend passed, after a 2 year heroic battle with Cancer - we shared life :-
from Junior School to New York City, football to Punk rock, neverending beers & bar-room brawls (always together), hardened long sobriety, wild & wonderful times in Dublin, London, Istanbul and New York -  A love of cigars and the beginners art of writing books - always rebels - yet looking & searching to be the best !
he introduced me to most of my loves’s, listened to me whine when they were over - I will be forever grateful for a true friendship - thinking and thanking his real love Mia, his beautiful & devoted wife and the wonderful Mehigan family, for making and shaping such a diamond.
John Mehigan I salute you , I was so honoured to be,  just your friend.

What would it be like if someone painted some of my imagery ?

Here is an interpretation by gifted Dublin artist Lisa Dunne

From the mean streets of Dublin city to the grandeur of the Mercantile Hotel, for Afternoon tea and my own take on the Irish fashion world.

I’m probably more comfortable threading the streets of urban Dublin, than the high brow world of Irish haute couture, but here you go !
